GTA VI: 8 Hot New Rumours You Need To Know
5. GTA Online's Success Could Push It Back Even Further
According to that age-old saying, you don't kill a goose while it's still laying golden eggs, and GTA Online is certainly doing that for Take-Two Interactive.
Grand Theft Auto V and its online component were still attracting sales of 80 million units per year as of May, putting the firm on track for strong 2018 numbers, even though it hasn't released a game this calendar year.
Higher-than-expected microtransactions within the multiplayer experience have convinced Take-Two to extend GTA Online's lifecycle in a move that, according to GameRant, has put GTA VI firmly on the back burner.
This makes sense. If GTA V and its multiplayer mode were both dead on the vine, the publisher would be under more pressure to bankroll the sequel concurrently with Red Dead Redemption 2 and roll it out during the current hardware generation.
But word that the latest game still raking it in for Take-Two and Rockstar adds credence to reports that GTA VI will be a next-generation exclusive.
