Half-Life Alyx: 13 Biggest Questions Answered For New Fans
2. What Should I Do If I’m Easily Sick From VR?
Apparently eating ginger biscuits and drinking ginger tea helps with nausea.
Advice from my mother aside, Half-Life: Alyx boasts four types of locomotion that should help keep people comfortable with VR.
The first two options are the most likely to be used, especially if you’re new to VR or are prone to motion sickness. Both Blink and Shift are your expected modes of movement in a VR game, being point-and-land teleportation. The difference being that the former and “most comfortable” fades in and out of black and the latter does not.
Beyond this you have continuous head and continuous hand, which seem very similar and are closer to that of a regular video game. You use your analogue sticks to move freely, with no teleportation or fading. One option will allow you to control this movement with the position of your head and the other, by your hand. These will be the most jarring for new players.
Your best bet will be faded teleportation and honestly, you won’t be missing much. If you disagree with that sentiment, then another option is training yourself.
Get used to VR and the immersive movement until you no longer feel said effects. Many experienced users have recommended using Google Earth in VR to help test your endurance.
