2. The Changes to Competitive Multiplayer
Under the Infinity banner, Halos multiplayer will have significant changes from previous installments. As stated before, Firefight has been replaced by Spartan Ops, and Forge will still be an available game mode. However, the classic matchmaking competitive multiplayer will now be called War Games and will feature an entirely new scoring system as well as abilities that are unlocked by earning Spartan Points. Multiplayer will have some sort of connection to the actual campaign and 343i will provide a back-story as to why Red is fighting Blue aboard the UNSC Infinity. Halo 4 will have new weapon load outs called Specializations, that way players can customize their weapons and abilities instead of every player starting out with the same configurations. Spartan Points will be the in-game currency that will allow the player to unlock new Spartan Ops missions, cosmetic upgrades, and armor abilities. There is also a new ranking system that allows the player to move up the ranks by gaining XP. Halo 4 will follow the same type of scoring system used in other popular first person shooters such as Call of Duty and Battlefield. This adapt or die mentality is a smart move for 343i , especially if they want to give players a fresh look at what can be done with the Halo franchise.
