Halo 5: 10 Things Fans Need

8. Immersive Melee Combat

Halo Sniper Edited 1 There was a brief sequence near the beginning of Halo 4 that was reminiscent of those that some players may also remember from games like 'Call Of Duty 3'. Such sequences involved the players being ambushed by a single enemy and having to mash various buttons in various patterns in order to progress through a close-quarter fistfight and successfully subdue their foe. Whether they are occasional scripted sequences or - more preferably - real-time events, such a feature could greatly add to the intensity of the gameplay. Those familiar with Halo gameplay know that is often all too easy to start punching your way through the enemies, beating them down with either your fist or the butt of your gun. Close-quarter mechanics only vary from punching to 'assassinations', which are player-activated sequences that occur when the enemy is approached from behind, the view then switching to third-person to show a special takedown move. More immersive and first-person sequences - as mentioned earlier - would add an extra dynamic to the melee combat and could even be activated when the player and enemy simultaneously go to 'punch' one another. Wrestling with a high-res alien roaring in your face whilst mashing numerous buttons would be far more entertaining than the simple one-hit beat down seen in most Halo games and would again add an extra challenge that the enemy could pose.
