Halo 5: Guardians - 9 Shocking Changes That Will Divide Fans

1. Choosing Frame Rate & Performance Over Actual Features

Did anyone on console actually demand we get higher frame rates and resolutions? The whole "Urgh, why's it at 30fps?!" has always been more of a PC-based argument. Console gaming is about the immediate experience, not counting frames or worrying about losing out on a particularly shiny ground texture. Going back to any of the past Halos (especially on 360) proves that we never needed liquid-butter frame rates for the perfect feel. Halo already had a solid engine when it came to handling huge amounts of explosions and frenetic firefights - there was simply no reason to double down on making an even smoother version of this, especially if that meant losing past features that fans are already demanding be returned. Whilst you can't deny that Halo 5 plays better overall thanks to these tweaks, its ability to remain one of the premiere first-person shooter experiences was never in question in the first place - especially from a purely technical standpoint. Being 343 have mentioned they'll be returning signature modes like King of the Hill, Oddball etc. soon enough, it only proves the new engine could've handled them anyway.
