Halo 5: Guardians - 9 Shocking Changes That Will Divide Fans
6. Cortana Not Being Dead
So much for almost the entirety of Halo 4's story, eh? On the one hand I'm totally glad Cortana is still involved in Guardians, albeit in a far reduced role from talking through every part of every mission - but on the other, it totally nullifies the close of Halo 4, which saw the Chief and Cortana part ways following the latter's increased degradation and AI rampancy. When it comes to bringing back beloved characters in any media, you're always going to fall into one of two camps; either you're stoked they've returned, because this isn't real life and why the hell can't they - or you're annoyed because now your previous outpour of emotion and the original 'death' itself feels cheaper in retrospect. Cortana being part of the story once again was leaked thanks to voice actor Jen Taylor mentioning she'd be involved in Halo 5, but you have to ask yourself; was it worth essentially making the events of Halo 4 pointless, in favour of having a staple member of the cast return once again?
