Halo: Ranking Every Game From Worst To Best
3. Halo: Combat Evolved (And Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary)
2001's Halo: Combat Evolved is largely considered to be one of the most pivotal first-person shooters of all time, and rightly so. To be frank, in terms of how much of a milestone it was for the genre, Halo was to the 2000s what Doom was to the 1990s.
The single-player campaign was ripe with innovation, featuring Master Chief in his very first outing as he took the fight to the malicious Covenant, wielding both human and alien weapons. The story also had a twist halfway through to keep things interesting, introducing the grotesque, parasitic Flood.
Narrative pacing was stellar, combat was insanely fun and satisfying, and the final mission remains not only one of Halo's best, but one of the best video game missions of all time, period. In addition, the incredible score would go on to become the stuff of legend, inspiring all of the games that came after it. And even though Halo's multiplayer was in its infancy and somewhat limited, it was still very fun.
Plus, ten years after its release, Halo: Combat Evolved was remastered in HD, introducing the legendary title to a new generation where its initial influence was still being felt.
