HBO's The Last Of Us: 10 Things We Need To See
9. Where is Abby?
Fans could rightly be justified in rolling their eyes at this question. Anybody even vaguely familiar with The Last of Us' canon is aware that Abby, Joel's eventual killer, does not appear until the franchise's second installment.
With that being said, Abby's absence in HBO's casting announcements is a conspicuous one. Her character is technically present during the events of the first game when Joel kills her father and saves Ellie; the story just does not reveal the scene where she discovers his body until the second chapter begins. As such, it is somewhat surprising that no rumors are swirling over who will take on the role of this integral character.
Pedro Pascal has teased that he is aware of Joel's fate, tantalizing fans by warning that his take on Joel "may not even make it" to his horrifying murder. This fact, combined with Abby's current non-casting and the widespread fanbase backlash to Joel's death, indicates that HBO may be taking things in a different direction. Pascal's Joel may very well see a different fate play out on-screen or the series could conclude utilizing the ending to the original game, skipping over the revenge-centric second installment altogether.
Whichever direction the show chooses to go in, audiences are anxiously waiting to find out as to whether The Last of Us 2's deuteragonist will make an appearance in some capacity.
