Hitman 2016: 10 Signs It'll Make The Series Great Again
3. A Deeper 'Contracts' Mode
One of the few welcome things Absolution introduced to the Hitman series was the Contracts mode, which let you create custom missions in existing levels then share them online. To create a contract, you needed to wander around a level, kill whoever you want to be the 'targets' of a given contract with specific weapons, then complete the mission. You then uploaded this contract online, opening it out for other people to play. In 47's latest outing, you'll be able to choose from an initial 800 targets in Contracts mode, and there'll be three 'sandbox' levels and six campaign missions available for it at launch. Three more sandbox missions - Thailand, USA and Japan - will be released in the months following the main game's release. There will also be special 'Weekly Live Hits' and Events that will give limited periods of time for players to perform special Contracts assigned by Square Enix, which then unlock new weapons, outfits and in-game currency. The heavy focus on evolving the Contracts mode once again tells us that Square Enix is looking to recapture the essence of what made the Hitman series great to begin with - carrying out assassinations in a series of scenarios that don't need to tie in to some sad story about Agent 47's miserable life. He's a Hitman, just let him get to the hitting!
