Hitman Beta: 4 Things It Gets Right (And 6 That Really Suck)

3. Really Sucks - No Instant Restart

The Hitman franchise has always excelled through subtle and subversive puzzle elements. Get the janitor's uniform to get the poison from storage, then get the chef's to gain access to the kitchen and taint the food - then become the waiter to deliver it. In essence, these are point n' click sensibilities, but IO have always pulled such things off in a way that made them natural and conducive to how you progress through the levels themselves. As such, so many moving parts means your experiments are going to go awry 10 times before they go right for one, and that's been an issue for Hitman's general playability since the original. Put simply, on current-gen consoles that are supposedly able to handle these sorts of massive worlds with ease, we need an 'instant restart' button, or at least the ability to create instant saves whenever we want. You can hop into a menu to make any number of autosaves in the beta, but it's not seamless or quick enough to favour the sort of "I'll save here and try this" approach that could take the whole experience to the next level.
