Hitman: Ranking EVERY Game From Worst To Best
9. Hitman: Codename 47
Here is where it all began, and though this isn't a bad game by any means, thankfully the series only improved from here.
Codename 47 started out life as a very different experience. It was to be based on the action films of the time, but once Eidos became the publisher, they urged for the pace of the game to be cranked all the way down.
It was after those first set of levels that the signature Hitman gameplay we still see today was born with hiding bodies being a key mechanic to each and every mission 47 has embarked upon. The stealth-focused murder sandbox is realised as changing outfits is key to progression.
Changing outfits is a great mechanic, but some guards won't be so easily fooled if they've spotted you in 47's now iconic black suit and red tie.
To sum this entry up - there is a strong groundwork for a great series, but it is a mixed bag of pacing, level size and at times, Codename 47 clearly doesn't know what it really wants to be.
