Horizon Zero Dawn: 16 Crucial Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
9. Use Enemy Guns & Cannons Against Them
One you've gotten used to how the various status effects work, invest in Tear damage, denoted by the small shield icon that appears broken in half. Tearblaster arrows, Tear mods for your other weapons, Tearblaster mines - anything will do.
Because what you need a high Tear value for, is to strip the components off enemy creatures without blowing them to smithereens - like you would if you used explosives or more basic arrows.
Once you've managed to knock a usable component off, keep an eye out for the floating yellow crosshair symbol, meaning you can pick up and wield whatever it is. Also be aware that when you're aiming with your newfound firearm, clicking the right stick slows time, meaning you can bust out some oh-so-sweet laser rifle shots (or whatever) in glorious, particle effect-showering slow motion.
