Horizon Zero Dawn Vs. Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Which Game Is Better?
Conclusion
So here's the thing. I started this out awarding the categories as I went, and if you've been keeping score, we've arrived at 5-5.
Both games are absolutely outstanding in all manner of ways I've outlined, and it feels very hard after so much praise to highlight one above the other. That said, depending on which systems you have access to, it will already have dictated what you can pick up - a methodology I can totally get behind.
If you're dying for an actual definitive pick though, it's Zelda.
Horizon is an immaculate game in every respect, but it's one built on foundations we've seen a thousand times before. Its story, world, character progression and ultimate revelation are profound, but in light of how Nintendo built a Zelda game that reminds the world just how to even create a video game, provides a much-needed reminder that not everything has to be formulaic.
Not everything needs a 'vision mode', a rarity-based loot system, busywork crafting or an infestation of tall grass to hide inside whenever an enemy comes near.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild lives up to its namesake, but it's also a much-needed breath of fresh air.
