Horizon Zero Dawn Vs. Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Which Game Is Better?
3. Boss Battles
Most of the time, Horizon's more intense battles are more a case of coming across something insanely powerful out in the world, but there are a couple cases of "We're locking you in, here's a fearsome foe" like a certain Thunderjaw battle or a mountaintop duel with a Stormbird.
Regardless of if the encounter is dynamic or scripted, you'll be deploying the same tactics to get by as before. Use you Focus vision mode to pick out vulnerable glowing parts, target them with your arrows, lay the occasional trap, and stay the f**k out the way when anything gets close.
Pair this off against Zelda, and Breath of the Wild rewrites the rulebook on how to even do a boss battle. First-up, each one is completely different, taking place in a variety of completely different locations comprising bodies of water, atop mountainsides or in the middle of deserts. Second, it's up to you to figure out how to survive.
Enemy flurries need to be blocked or parried, and your own environmental manipulation powers will no doubt factor into what to do in a pinch. Without going into specifics, the moment you realise you can pick up a certain part of your surroundings and use them on the boss itself, is exactly the kind of thing no other developer would even dream of.
Winner: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
