How Bethesda Should Make The Elder Scrolls VI
1. Destructible Environments
Like The Joker in The Dark Knight, some people just want to watch the world burn, and Bethesda should let them.
In Skyrim, you can drive an axe into a tree without leaving a mark, sling a spell of mass destruction into a wall without consequence, or a burn a wooden chest only to find it's fireproof.
Not only does this remind you you're playing a video game, it's a well-known fact that destructible environments are all kinds of fun, and anyone who disagrees clearly hasn't played Just Cause 3.
Blowing stuff up is all well and good, but there are more meaningful reasons to make Elder Scrolls VI's version of Tamriel more destructive. For starters, it could be tied into base building, with players able to fell trees to gather wood or blow up stone structures and harvest the raw minerals.
It would also place another option at players' disposal when it comes to problem solving. When life gives you a locked door, you could seek out the key or blow it off its hinges with your most destructive spell.
