How Bioware Can SAVE Mass Effect On Next-Gen Consoles

2. Soft-Reboot With An All-New Younger Dev Team

Mass Effect 3
BioWare

The reason Bioware don't need to worry about losing the majority of their original key staff?

Because Bioware is more than just a handful of people. Yes, these individuals gave us those immaculate original titles, but there's an entire fandom built up for a decade and a half, that grew alongside Mass Effect and the studio's other IPs.

Many who idolised Bioware in their younger days are hopefully now working at the studio or would certainly respond to hiring calls, presenting ideas from a hybridised fan/developer perspective that would progress the IP overall.

It's also worth mentioning that Mass Effect's original Creative Director Casey Hudson is back at Bioware after leaving across the 2010s, and for N7 day 2018 he noted that "every day" he comes into the studio "dreaming about what the next great Mass Effect game will be".

Whilst this is great energy to have - and Hudson is a powerful and important creative force - I think he should be entirely in a consultant role. Have Hudson on-hand to bounce ideas off - to be the keeper of all-things Mass Effect, who has the final say on whether something "can" or "can't work".

Other than that though, let's have Mass Effect feel energised, fresh and purposeful again. Not losing its way with crafting systems and barren open-worlds, appealing to no one.

A Bioware made of industry veterans and newcomers, providing a bold new vision for what this IP can be, without being tied to nostalgia and what went before. THAT can be Mass Effect all over again.

And lastly...
