How FromSoftware Should Make Bloodborne 2
The Old Hunters
This mini-campaign served as a prequel of sorts. It presented the Hunters of yore, trapped in a nightmarish world as punishment for their bloodthirsty ways. It’s where some of the game’s most fiendish bosses (Ludwig the Accursed/the Orphan of Kos among them) are fought, and some of the most intriguing weapons and Hunter tools are discovered.
The weapons found here, such as the Beast Cutter and Whirligig Saw, are more brutal, more inelegant, more primitive than most of those featured in the main game. NPC hunters are seen battling beasts in the streets, with the player getting mixed up in some of the brawls. It’s Bloodborne at its vicious, bloody best.
It’s deeper than that too, though. Later in the DLC, in the Research Hall, we get to see the grotesque depths that the Healing Church took their experiments to, the horrific secrets they tried to hide. Finally, in the Fishing Hamlet, we learn why the Hunter’s Nightmare exists in the first place, why these people were being punished. All in all, The Old Hunters retains all the intrigue of the main story, all the unique weaponry and high-octane combat, tempered with a more of a chance to delve into the lore than players were afforded previously.
