Injustice 3: 10 Things We Want To See
5. A Dedicated Block Button
Another element of the Injustice series that differentiates it from MK is the lack of a dedicated block button. Injustice instead requires players to walk backwards in order to block incoming moves. Thisleads to matches being far more defensive in nature, especially when compared to MK.
There is some strategy involved. Getting crossed up (when the opponent jumps to the other side of you, forcing you to change the direction you're blocking in) is far more likely than in MK, meaning players have to be on their toes far more. Despite this, the cons far outweigh the pros.
Crucially, it contributes to the games innate zoning problem. When all players are forced to walk backwards to block, they are more likely to try and keep the opponent from getting in by using zoning techniques. This means there are some long and laborious matches.
This is coupled with Injustice having a much greater amount of screen space than MK. Players have so much room to just walk back, and if they have zoning tools, there is no reason to go forward. For Injustice 3, NetherRealm needs to get rid of this mechanic, and give players a reason to move forward.
