Insider Reveals TRUTH Of Netflix Resident Evil
1. VFX Supervisor Would Walk If Given Reduced Budget
After reading the season 2 scripts and pitches, it was readily apparent to Lingenfelser that the show was going to be even more “VFX heavy” and would require a stable budget. He described the Resident Evil show as a “VFX show” first and foremost which meant that, in actuality, it needed to be a big success in order to get the budget they would’ve needed moving forward.
Lingenfelser was concerned that the visual effects budget demands for season 2 would be even greater than the first. He expressed concern that, hypothetically, if Netflix had come to him and told him a lower figure than he felt necessary that he was prepared to “do a Darabont”.
Lingenfelser is referring to Frank Darabont’s famous firing from AMC’s The Walking Dead in 2011 due to budgetary disagreements.
“If you’re not going to spend the proper amount of money, the show’s gonna suffer.”
Considering the tidbits from season two that he explained, not to mention the on-set issues that impacted the visual effects budget, it’s certainly understandable why this would’ve been a hard line for the supervisor.
For all the show did that divided people, it’s largely agreed that the visual effects were the best part of it and that the show would’ve struggled to ride any momentum that it had if that key component was missing or changed in some way.
