Kingdom Hearts 3: 10 Reasons It's A Disappointment
5. The Incoherent Writing & Flat Direction
It's no secret that the story and general writing of the Kingdom Hearts games is extremely divisive, even among the series' most hardcore cheerleaders, but this game's approach to narrative is especially infuriating.
For starters, the dialogue is toe-curlingly corny and stilted at almost all times - take a shot every time someone says "heart" and die within a half-hour - and unless you've got a strong cringe reflex, you'll likely start tuning out after a short while.
It's too convoluted to be truly engaging, and though the themed worlds do help break up the monotony of the main story somewhat, it is a strictly "for the fans" approach that, even then, isn't terribly alluring.
Cut-scene direction is also a major problem, with the majority of them featuring weird pauses between dialogue, awkward shot selections and failing to make the most of the gorgeously rendered characters.
Simply, the aggressively exposition-heavy script combines with flat direction to make most of the story elements painfully boring to all but the most invested Kingdom Hearts fan.
