Kingsglaive - Final Fantasy XV Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Awful Dialogue

Crisp, concise, naturalistic dialogue has never been Final Fantasy's forte, but even so, there are plenty of groan-worthy moments throughout the movie.

First of all, there's exposition all over the place and the film just can't massage it into the script naturally, as well as some incredibly on-the-nose dialogues about Nyx being an "immigrant", possibly in a misguided attempt to have some social relevance.

That's just the beginning, though. There are tons of lame, "witty" comebacks shouted out as our heroes take down enemies, and plenty of howlingly cliched lines ripped straight out of the action movie/video game handbook, such as a villain telling Nyx, "You're out of time" to which he wryly retorts, "I'll make some".

Faux-bada** rubbish like this just makes Kingsglaive feel like an anime trying so, so hard to be a real movie and not quite succeeding.
