Knack 2 Reviews: 11 Critical Reactions You Need To Know
3. Presentation Is A Mixed Bag
"Knack 2 is pretty uneven in terms of its presentation overall. There are moments of beauty, and the direction during the quick time events is appropriately stylish and energetic, but the worlds on display are merely adequate from a technical perspective, and your companions are disappointingly wooden, lacking in anything but the most basic of animations during missions." - IGN
"Although I didn't have any performance issues at all during my playtime, HDR and any Pro-specific FPS enhancement don't really help Knack II. There's a lot of really cool sequences to behold like Knack reforming bit by bit when he bodyslams, but there was a moment where I was in an arena battling humanoids that looked like they had been stripped from a mid-2000s Xbox game where I started to rethink my life and the choices that led up to that moment." - Destructoid
"Combat moves and platform sequences are all delivered, shining and smelling agreeably of grease. I found one gameplay bug, but other than that, Knack 2 is polished and highly competent." - Polygon
Critics were also rather divided on how Knack 2 looks, for while Knack himself is frequently impressive and the game's particle effects in particular are routinely gorgeous, the general look of the world and the game's enemies are rather bland for the most part.
It seems to be a game wrestling with what it wants to be: there are moments of genuine visual beauty during intense set-pieces that seem totally of-the-moment, but then much of the combat looks retro, and not in the cool way.
At least there were few reports of major bugs or glitches, suggesting that the game wasn't rushed to market or will be needing a colossal day-one patch.
