Knack 2 Reviews: 11 Critical Reactions You Need To Know
11. It's An Easy Improvement Over The Original
"The sequel isn’t without problems, but it’s much improved, with a solid mix of gameplay elements, anchored by fun combat and good pacing." - IGN
"Allocated a decent development schedule for Knack 2, [director Mark Cerny's] avoided many of the problems that plagued Knack’s design. This time around, Knack gets to spend a lot of his time being the big guy." - Polygon
"Knack II is the follow-up to a mediocre PS4 launch game and is testament to the value of iteration. The new game...scrubs away most of its predecessor’s faults." - Kotaku
First things first, yes, Knack 2 is a rock solid improvement over the divisive original, which released in late 2013 as a rushed-out PS4 launch title and was deemed by most critics to be a thoroughly mediocre platformer.
The sequel isn't perfect by any means, but the consensus is that it fans away many of the original's nagging issues, achieving a greater balance of gameplay elements and minimising player frustration.
That it's settled at a respectable 70-ish on Metacritic is all the proof needed that Knack 2 has elevated the unexpected franchise to legitimate decency.
