L.A. Noire 2: 5 Reasons Rockstar Should Make It (And 5 Reasons To Avoid)

9. Why They Shouldn't: Rockstar Has More Profitable Projects

L.A Noire, despite the favourable reviews, sold signicantly less than Rockstar Game's previous titles. This wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the amount of money that was spent making the title.

For a game in development since 2004, L.A Noire was one of the most expensive video games ever made. Rockstar Games took a heavy gamble on Team Bondi, providing a budget of $50 million dollars to the team. L.A Noire was reported to have sold 5 million copies of the game by 2012 compared to Red Dead Redemption which had sold 8.5 million copies in its first year.

Rockstar was likely more motivated to continue with evolving Red Dead Redemption into a franchise, which eventually came to fruition with the prequel in late October 2018. Within only eight days, Red Dead Redemption 2 had reportedly sold over 17 million copies.

In just over a week, it had tripled L.A Noire's first year sales.

Rockstar is still profiting heavily of both the Red Dead and Grand Theft Auto franchise and due to the universal popularity that these games hold, its unlikely that Rockstar will return to a game which almost burned a devastating hole in their pockets.
