L.A. Noire 2: 5 Reasons Rockstar Should Make It (And 5 Reasons To Avoid)
5. Why They Shouldn't: The Game Should Be Left Alone For What It Is
L.A Noire is a cult classic with a devoted and appreciative fanbase. The game excels in its attempts to immerse the player as a 1940s detective throughout various sectors of the Los Angeles Police Department. In this regard, it is very artistic and memorable. Moreover, L.A Noire set the precedent for specific game development technology, making it one of the most important and revolutionary peices of gaming of its time and it should be remembered as such.
Team Bondi's use of their own technology known as MotionScan allowed for the entire face to be recorded and translated into the game, capturing every eye movement and facial tick. Its unique in the fact that it has only been used in L.A Noire. The process of MotionScan is not only extraordinarily expensive but flawed due to its ability to only capture the face. Nevertheless, L.A Noire's advancements in facial scanning allowed other studios to adapt, resulting in some of the most convincing and realistic performances in gaming, notably Uncharted 4.
L.A Noire's significant influence on motion capture technology allowed for some of the best looking facial animations to date. Rockstar may just want to leave the game as the art that it is.
