4. Microtransactions Still Hurt Ultimate Team

Madden 20 MUT
EA Sports

Ultimate Team has, to the offline player, become the devil of EA's sports games. Things are no different in Madden. Here, MUT is a stroke of money-making genius that rewards those with patience but punishes those with none. Oh yes, those pesky microtransactions are back, and they're back in a big way.

In fairness to EA, they haven't ever hidden this element since Ultimate Team launched in Madden 10.

That doesn't stop it from being a hindrance to the mode's enjoyment. There's always a sense that EA are trying to trick players out of real cash like some sort of "Free To Play" mobile game with an asterisk. It cheapens the experience somewhat, and the underlying 'Pay To Win' formula is tiresome in 2019.

Again in fairness, EA seem to have made sure that it's still possible to build a good stack of cards without dipping into one's wallet. That temptation is always there though, and it's a nuisance to be constantly reminded that paying more for a game you've already paid for is an option.
