Madden 20 Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs
3. Presentation Needs An Overhaul
Those who regularly enjoy NFL games on TV may bemoan the lack of announcers like Joe Buck and Troy Aikman or the more laid-back duo of Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth. Hell, having some Booger McFarland or Tony Romo would be nice too. Instead, Madden 20 has Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis again.
They're hardly bad, but their banter is stale and doesn't seem to have been backed by new lines, conversations or contextual analysis this year. Worse, some glitches mean they call the wrong plays or give information during key moments that's wrong; hearing Davis credit a RB for winning a first down when he didn't is inexcusable.
Presentation could do with some spring cleaning in other parts of the game too.
There aren't enough little cutscenes playing in between plays that help make everything seem real. When squads are shown talking on the bench or discussing drives with a coach, it works, so it's baffling that EA didn't include more of this. This year's game feels like Madden 19 with a scene or two thrown in to give the illusion of change.
