Madden 20 Review: 5 Ups & 4 Downs

4. QB1 Has Serious Potential

College football, the Combine, the Draft and more make the new QB1 'Face Of The Franchise' mode a thrill for those seeking a guided whistle stop tour of NFL life. It's not quite as immersive as it could be once the action gets past the first chapter or two, but it's definitely a nice distraction and better than anything Devin Wade and Colt Cruise managed.

Longshot lacked the subtle touches of the old Superstar Mode that QB1 has.

It's early days too, meaning EA will refine the story mode in coming Madden games. This 'Face Of The Franchise' thing is worth keeping an eye on, particularly if EA throw in some more NBA 2K-style customisation and freedom eventually. Why their sports games don't follow 2K's template more closely is madden-ing.

QB1 is fun, and playing some NCAA snaps again mixes things up nicely. There will always be those gamers who want more and more dialogue wheels, customisation, open world goodness and more. This doesn't have all of that, but it does have the capacity to become the mode Superstar fans of yesteryear crave.
