Magic: The Gathering: 10 Most Powerful Mono-Blue Cards In 2020 Standard

4. Mystical Dispute

Thassa Magic
Wizards Of The Coast

With blue seeing play in so many different decks in standard you may have decided to play with it yourself. If you have Mystical Dispute is a card that should be in your deck. Reducing mana costs has a history of being very overpowered in Magic, when that is combined with a counterspell it means you should be playing that card.

For two mana of any colour plus one blue mana you get to counter target spell unless its controller pays three mana of any colour. This can put aggressive decks and midrange decks on the back foot as they don't often have an extra three mana sitting around to pay for taxes on their spells. Where this card is best is against other decks that are playing blue. When Mystical Dispute targets a blue spell it reduces the cost by two generic mana. This means that you can counter, or at the very least tax, any blue spell for one blue mana.

When a deck, strategy, or colour gains presence in the meta counters, no pun intended, will appear to answer it. Being versatile by still being a main deck playable counterspell means Mystical Dispute will see play as long as it's in standard.
