Magic: The Gathering - 10 Most Powerful Mono-White Cards In 2020 Standard

5. Kenrith, The Returned King

Heliod Magic

At first glance Kenrith, the Returned King looks like a bit of a Swiss Army Knife but how can you pay for it? Hint, don't. A mainstay in Jeskai Fires decks Kenrith is usually one of the cards that helps the deck be its best self. Four generic and one white mana for a 5/5 with five different abilities is already tons of value, especially when you don't have to pay to cast it.

Your choice of: giving everything trample and haste, putting a +1/+1 counter on a creatyre, gaining 5 life, drawing a card, or reanimating something from your or your opponents graveyard means once Kenrith hits the battlefield your opponent will have to do something about it or the game will come to a quick end. Even when the Fires deck is forced to hard cast its spells this is one that they will prioritize.

When a deck that can cast anything for free chooses a card, it's best to consider that card a fairly big threat. When that card makes the rest of the cards in the deck even bigger threats than they already were. It's one of the best cards in that deck.
