Magic: The Gathering - 10 Most Powerful Mono-White Cards In 2020 Standard

4. Banishing Light

Heliod Magic
Wizards of the Coast

Seeing standard set printings only in Theros themed blocks Banishing Light has seen play both times that it has been able to do so, this speaks to the high quality of this seemingly innocuous card. Two generic mana and one white will net you an enchantment that will exile any other nonland permanent as long as it is on the battlefield.

White is not a colour in that you usually find hard removal in so when it gets removal that can take care of pretty much anything it's time to sit up and pay attention. If you have a troublesome Planeswalker or a big creature on the other side of the battlefield that your small white creatures are having trouble taking care of this card can easily do so for you. In order to get rid of it your opponent will either need to specifically have enchantment removal, which is not that common, or use nonland permanent removal which they would hopefully much rather use on your threats.

If your opponent does manage to remove Banishing Light they will manage to get the problem card back, which is the biggest downside to the card. In a colour that traditionally lacks great removal options Banish Light is one of the best examples present in current Standard.
