Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 14 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do

6. Take Jumps With Less Air For Maximum Speed

Another advanced technique, but have you found yourself losing races due to being stuck in hang-time (mid-air) for too long?

The qualm comes from wanting to trigger the trick-boost you get from hitting R at the edge of a ramp, but then having that result in too big a jump, costing you valuable seconds towards a better lap time. It's definitely a pointer for hardcore players, but if you actually hit R when approaching - before the lip of the ramp itself - you'll bunny-hop 'over' the part that would otherwise launch you, yet you still get the boost.

This way you can charge straight through to the next portion of the track, without ever getting hung up in mid-air.
