3. Learn How To "Counter-Steer" For Maximum Boost

Depending on how long you've been playing Mario Kart - or the kart racing genre in general - you might have instinctually figured this out, but MK Tour's drifting mechanic is the same as if you had an analogue stick or D-pad.

Here, once you've swiped in a given direction and initiated the drift, keep your finger pressed down and drag it back the other way.

This is how you actively control your drift without turning too much, and it'll allow you to continue ostensibly moving "forward", still building up a turbo to release after a few seconds.

Keep an eye on your kart's exhausts while drifting, too. They'll go from grey to blue, yellow to pink, with sharper turns speeding this change up.

If you can hold onto a drift for the maximum amount of time, it'll result in the biggest boost coming out the other side.
