Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Review: 7 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Unlockables And Costumes Are Lazy

It doesn't effect the quality overall, but the lack of any interesting unlockables in Ultimate Alliance 3 is incredibly deflating. The excellent Infinity challenge levels are some of the best in the entire game, providing a real test of your might with interesting variables added to already completed missions, but the rewards for completion are never satisfying.

Costumes are the biggest wasted opportunity. They're all just recolours of existing character models rather than true re-skins that ape the style of real alternate comic book outfits. Spidey's for instance is silver and grey in a way that mimics the older spider armour from the comics, but it's not a new costume, just a palette swap. The same is true for the rest of the costumes, like Grey Hulk, and it's a real shame considering how limited the customisation already is that other, proper skins aren't included as standard.

The rest of the unlockables aren't much better, as while you can finish challenges to get new characters, the vast majority of time you'll be rewarded with basic skins, ISO crystals or XP power ups.
