6. Skill Trees

Love them or hate them, skill trees have become the most common progression system across all kinds of games. So, unsurprisingly, Marvel's Avengers will be no exception. Crystal Dynamics are no stranger to this mechanic, having utilised it across their recent Tomb Raider trilogy to great effect.

The Avengers progression system will be familiar as it follows existing models rather than creating something entirely new. Players will use the skill points they earn during gameplay to unlock different moves and powers.

Split into four categories, the skill tree offers upgrades on melee and ranged attacks, as well as two "intrinsic" categories. Intrinsic abilities are unique to each character, for example, Thor's intrinsic abilities are naturally based around lightning. The first of the intrinsic trees involve regular moves that a player can use during combat, while the second is labelled "Intrinsic Overcharge". The overcharge abilities tie into the Heroic Moves that we will talk about shortly.

While we didn't get a good look at them, there are two other screens to choose from in the skill tree. Labelled "Primary", "Speciality" and "Mastery", these assumedly line up with the level and power rating at the top of the screen.
