Mass Effect: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Shepard

9. Interesting Stats About Player's Shepard Choices

Bioware

Bioware, over the years, has been pretty transparent about how players have interacted with the Mass Effect series.

For example, after the launch of Mass Effect 2, Bioware revealed that a whopping 82% of all players chose to play as a Male Shepard, with just 18% choosing the female version. On top of that, 83% of players actually created their own Shepard rather than using Bioware's pre-determined models (take that, Mark Vanderloo!).

As you'll know if you played Mass Effect, the type of class you choose at the start has a massive effect on how your Commander Shepard plays. The same study found that the Soldier class was more popular than every other class combined (65%), while barely anybody played as the engineer class.

A similar study for Mass Effect 3 once again found that Male Shepard was the most popular, again with 82% of players choosing that version. The same study also found that most players prefer making their Shepard a saintly Paragon rather than a dastardly renegade: 64.5% chose the Paragon path, and 35.5% chose the Renegade.
