Mass Effect 4: 10 Ways It Can Revolutionise The Franchise

2. Huge Open Worlds

After the somewhat misguided complaining about the planet exploring in the first Mass Effect, the following entries in the series threw out the premise completely in favor for smaller, linear, and more detailed levels. Ever since then many fans have begged for the open worlds of the first game to come back. The problem wasn€™t the premise, it was the execution. If the planetary exploration were significantly improved, the potential would be limitless. The next Mass Effect needs to bring back the large scale open world exploration, especially since the technology has improved so much since the first game. Environments needn€™t be recycled any longer, as every planet can offer unique terrain, wildlife, and most importantly, stories to tell. As long as every world you explore offers something new and interesting, the problems of the first game no longer apply. Another issue in the first game was the Mako, a vehicle so cumbersome and slow that it became frustratingly tedious to drive. Since it has been confirmed that the Mako will be returning, it is very important that the handling and speed be improved. The Mako should be fun to drive. As long as that is fun, exploring will be fun also. The good news is that, with exploration and discovery formally announced by Bioware as being the focus of the next game, all this is pretty much confirmed. Now the question is whether they can pull it off. Here€™s hoping.
