Mass Effect 4: 10 Ways It Can Revolutionise The Franchise

4. Customisable Starships

If you have ever dreamt of being the captain of a starship and traversing space, the Mass Effect series is for you. Despite not giving the player complete control, the role-playing nature of the games goes a long way into making you feel the part. It€™s a major reason so many people love the series. Part of the way in which the series was able to achieve this effect was by bonding the player with their starship, the Normandy. Like other great sci-fi franchises, this ship became the mascot of the Mass Effect trilogy. As you partake in increasingly more dangerous adventures with it over the course of all three games, you develop an emotional attachment to it in the same way people do over the Enterprise and the Millenium Falcon. It is imperative that the next Mass Effect take this even further and bond the player to their ship, and a great way to do this would be to allow players to personalize their ship through customization options. It needn€™t be anything too elaborate, but something simple like letting players choose from a few base designs and decorating the outside with optional colors, symbols, and logos would be a good start. This would be an easy way of deepening the connection you have with your ship and making your trek across the galaxy an even greater and more personal experience.
