Mass Effect 5 Wishlist: 10 Major Risks Bioware MUST Take
8. Andromeda’s Combat Mechanics
Though perhaps slightly less so than Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda still represents scorched earth for BioWare. As such, incorporating anything from the game marks a bit of a risk, despite it being part of the same franchise.
A hard reset is probably what’s needed (more on that later), but baby and bathwater and all that. Mass Effect’s shooting mechanics had been increasing in quality through the original trilogy, and Andromeda was a surprising continuation of that.
With both the range of powers on offer and the gunplay itself, Andromeda offered a tight shooter experience, even if the rest of the game lacked that sense of polish.
One of the best aspects though was the ability to switch between ability classes, even mixing and matching.
Mass Effect has always had Combat for by the numbers shooting, Biotic for the energy pulses and Engineer for more technical abilities. You could go for pure focus or split between two at the start of the game, but Andromeda allowed you to either switch between or combine all three consistently throughout the game.
This and the possibility to choose between whichever individual powers you want needs to stick around.
