Almost all games with moral choice systems, Mass Effect included, eventually run into a particular problem - that you have to polarise your character one way or the other in order to achieve the best results. Using this series as an example, you have to go completely Paragon or completely Renegade in order to successfully unlock the dialogue options necessary to get the best endings - and that isn't always what people want to do. With Paragon, this usually isn't so much of a problem - helping random people doesn't ever feel particularly bad - but a lot of the Renegade options, especially for smaller decisions, are just Shepard being horrible to people for no particular reason, with the only point being to increase your Renegade rating. What Andromeda needs to do is make way for a third option - a more neutral standpoint, where useful dialogue options are only unlocked if you are not too polarised in either direction. Having this option would mean that you don't necessarily have to choose a particular decision, just because your character is going down that route. You can be equally "good" and "bad" as circumstances (and your opinion) change, and not have to worry about messing up a major decision because you don't have the necessary Charm or Intimidation requirement, should you balance them out accordingly. This feature isn't one that Mass Effect alone needs, it's one that would benefit moral choices in games in general - so if Andromeda could pull it off well, then it would trailblaze the way forward for these types of games. And that's not a bad way for something to be remembered at all. What other unexpected features would you love to see in Mass Effect: Andromeda? Let us know in the comments!
