Mass Effect Andromeda Gameplay Hands-On: 11 New Details You Need To Know
11. It's Been 634 Years Since Mass Effect 3
In one of the best story pivots since X-Men: Days of Future Past wiped out its own godawful third instalment, Bioware have written it so the 'Andromeda Initiative' that set off searching for a new home for humanity embarked on their voyage just before Mass Effect 3. It seems someone out there was listening to Shepard's cries about the Reaper apocalypse, after all.
This means we get all of the awesome world and mythology-building from the first two games, with none of the 'Reapers are a controllable A.I. force' nonsense, and none of Shepard becoming Space Jesus - being the characters of Andromeda have no idea what happened after they left.
To that end, Andromeda picks up 634 years after Mass Effect 3, seeing the crew awaken from cryosleep, before heading off into a new galaxy to carve a name for humankind along the way.
