Mass Effect Andromeda Gameplay Hands-On: 11 New Details You Need To Know

10. All-New Cover System & Combat Mechanics (Side-Boosts & Jetpack)

The jetpack was one of the very first components we saw in regards to what was then known as 'Mass Effect 4', and years ahead, Bioware have gone down the road of not necessarily revamping the combat, more refining it.

First up, gone is 'press A to take cover'. The former 'cover shooter mentality' mostly died off after the 2000s, and now we have a dynamic cover system almost like Metal Gear Solid V, where Ryder will hug up next to a wall or waist-high structure as you get near it, forgoing the need to 'snap' in and out of a cover state.

According to Youtuber MEOdyssey, controls are still identical to the last two Mass Effect's (which were already very action-heavy), except now we have dedicated buttons for a visual scanner, a jetpack-boosted jump, slow-motion mid-air aiming and some very Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare side-boosters.

Combined, this means combat is FAR faster than anything we've seen before, allowing you to read the terrain and 3D space around you, rather than just looking for which points you can hide behind. Pretty much the perfect way to evolve the third-person action/Mass Effect gameplay we all know and love.
