Mass Effect: Ranking Every Main Squad Member In The Original Trilogy
14. Kaidan Alenko
Depending on your choices, Kaidan is either in all three games or only one. In the most famous choice the player gets to make in the original Mass Effect, during the mission on Virmire, the player must decide whether to save Kaidan or to save Ashley. It's a difficult choice and knowing the surviving character will appear in the following game then return as a full squad member in the third instalment means the choice is particularly weighted.
A biotic in the Systems Alliance marines, Kaidan unfortunately started the trend of relatively boring human companions on the Normandy. Thankfully for him, his appearance in three games gives him an edge over characters like Jacob and James. His history with the crew and with Shepard makes him instantly more likable even if at a base level he's just fine.
Kaidan feels forever entwined to Ashley as their surviving fates are incredibly similar. Unfortunately, Ashley is more interesting.
