Medal Of Honor: Ranking The Series From Worst To Best

5. Medal Of Honor: Vanguard

Next up on the run down is this 2007 effort. It was the final Medal of Honor game to be produced for the sixth generation of consoles (along with the Wii), and also the final game to be based in a WW2 setting. The game takes place over the course of four campaigns from Italy, France, Holland and Germany, and the player takes the role of Cpl/Sgt. Frank Keegan, a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, and 17th Airborne Division. Nothing out of the ordinary here you could say, as it seemed to follow a familiar pattern to previous games. Despite receiving poor reviews from critics (review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the PlayStation 2 version 64.35% and 63/100 and the Wii version 57.52% and 56/100), the game was a satisfying enough experience. The added bonus of customising weapons prior to missions was a nice perk for a WW2 game too. It was also the last game to include the split-screen mode which had played a big part in previous games in the series. While this is understandable considering the online multiplayer wave which was about to wash over the FPS landscape, the thrill of completing a mission with a friend who is actually in the room is still a nice memory. The reason this game has a higher ranking than perhaps some may think it deserves is due to the fact that considering there was little publicity for the game, it was a case of getting what you paid for. If you were looking for a simple FPS experience, it surely delivered.
