Metal Gear Solid: 16 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Totally Missed

5. Meryl's Character Was Essentially A Cameo From Another Game

It's a well-known fact that Kojima pretty much improvised the plot of every subsequent Metal Gear once the prior had gained enough success to warrant a sequel, and as such, Meryl's inclusion in the first game definitely wasn't intended to be the subject of a 20 minute-long wedding cutscene in part four. In fact, as you only come across her a handful of times in the story, you could call her appearance that of a cameo, and essentially an easter egg if you know where she originated. Said game is Kojima's Policenauts, a first-person point n' click 'cinematic adventure game' replete with a manga-aesthetic and a string of memorable characters. One such is Meryl Silverburgh, appearing with her iconic red hair, same build and penchant for tomboy-ish looks - she even shares the same voice actor between games in the Japanese version, Megumi Terease. Other elements cross over into the Policenauts universe too, such as an organisation called Foxhound and Meryl's lover being called Dave Forrest, the same first name Kojima would use for Solid Snake.
