Metal Gear Solid: 16 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Totally Missed

2. Snake/Jack And Hal/Rose's Names Mean More Than You Think

As is abundantly clear from Metal Gear's East-meets-West philosophies, Kojima absolutely adores the overblown nature of western culture - but primarily the qualities of western cinema. Mentioned earlier was the notion that Snake's name could've come from a Policenauts character, but as he pairs up with Otacon (real name Hal Emmerich), it's more likely this is a nod to 2001: A Space Odyssey, where a scientist and rogue A.I. both have the same respective names. Not only that, but again in MGS 2 Raiden's real name is Jack, to which the game tells of a love story with Rose - the same two names as the leads Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett play in Titanic.
