Metal Gear Solid: 16 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Totally Missed

12. Psycho Mantis Knows Whether You Have SIXAXIS Or DualShock 3 - MGS 4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFx3dU9wV64 Only Hideo Kojima would put resources and time behind programming a boss to react to your specific controller type, and although thousands of us had upgraded the initially terrible SIXAXIS pad to a DualShock 3 in Metal Gear Solid 4, if you still had the original, there's a brilliant little nod to the first MGS tucked away in Mantis' dialogue. Basically, as the game came right on the cusp of Sony bowing to consumer demands and releasing an 'all new' DualShock, it allowed Koj and crew to replay the scene from Metal Gear Solid 1, where the then-new original vibrating pad would activate accordingly when Mantis tried to 'control' it with the power of his mind. It was a fantastic trick at the time, but for the PS3 far less people had the newest hardware, leaving Mantis to first try and read your 'memory card', fail thanks to everything being stored on a hard drive, and then dissolve into nothingness whilst screaming "What?! No vibration either?!" Just brilliant.
