Metal Gear Solid: 16 Mind-Blowing Easter Eggs You Totally Missed
11. Mario In Twin Snakes
Fans who championed MGS as a Sony-exclusive in the console wars cried "Judas!" when Konami dared to let Nintendo have exclusivity rights to the original Metal Gear Solid's full remake, however that did mean getting the full crossover treatment. As such, Twin Snakes ended up something of a weird hybrid of design styles, having within it the same dialogue and espionage narrative as the PSone version, but with fully-reworked, anime-style cutscenes that assumedly were meant to appeal to a wider (and younger) action-loving demographic. A standout 'WTF moment' was when a previously realistically-portrayed Snake backflips off in-flight missile to avoid certain death, but aside from this ridiculousness, it was the easter eggs that were something of a saving grace, rewarding those who used the new first-person mode to explore more detailed versions of areas we'd primarily seen from above. Where previously Hal Emmerich's lab had been covered in posters for Policenauts (an older Hideo Kojima game), now they were replaced with Zone of the Enders 2. The best part though, comes with multiple items of Nintendo merchandise visible on shelves and desks around the room; Mario and Luigi statues sit opposite an actual Gamecube, complete with Wavebird controller and a menu screen on the nearby monitor.
