3. Realising Just How Much Codec Dialogue Existed (And Discovering Nastasha)
Considering how many characters have graced the worlds of all Metal Gear games, one Nastasha Romanenko never got any followup after the first game - not to mention her existence actually being completely missed by those who didn't follow up on her Codec frequency. As a system of information from your command unit to both Snake and you in the field, the Codec is genius from the get-go. It really made you feel like a secret agent alone in the field with your support crew just a phone call away, and when Kojima and his team recorded hundreds of lines of dialogue for any and all situations you found yourself in, it was always rewarding to randomly dial out every time. One of the best plot twists in gaming history comes specifically from the Master-is-Liquid reveal - and as the impact of this directly played into how much time you'd optionally put into ringing him over the course of the game, it felt that little bit more personal and impactful overall when it happened.
