4. Hal 'Otacon' Emmerich - Joseph Gordon-Levitt

A very hard casting to get right, Otacon is known for being the useless and archetypal 'anime nerd' - yet he's one who makes up for a lack of physical stature by creating some of the coolest gadgets in the franchise. That, and in MGS 4, he ends up sleeping with Naomi - most likely because she felt sorry for him.

With all this mentioned, you might be looking to cast a Michael Cera-type, but part of Otacon's overall appeal is showing off just how much potential he has underneath that geeky facade. And with that in mind, why not get Joseph Gordon-Levitt?

We've seen Levitt play more understated, nerdier characters before, and as he can still bust out a winning smile when it matters most, those scenes where Naomi starts to see him in a romantic light would be far easier to convey.

That, and Gordon-Levitt could nail the MGS 2 "special handshake" like nobody's business.
